Eleanor Earl

Eleanor Earl, Producer/ Director/Co-Writer/ Composer

Ms. Earl has been an Assistant Professor of English and Cinema Studies at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia for four years.   She has been named Chair of the Film Committee and Chair of the Athletics Committee. She also serves as Chair of the English Department’s Film Committee and teaches all of the Cinema Studies courses offered in the department. She was also an Adjunct Professor of Communication and Humanities at Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA from 1998 to 2003.

Ms. Earl has been teaching at the collegiate level in the areas of Communication Studies, Humanities, and English for ten years.  She has lectured at Pepperdine University and The DeVry Institute of Technology in California; Hampton University and Tidewater Community College in Virginia; and Queens College in New York.

She was awarded the National Collegiate Communication Arts Award in 1993, and was certified to teach for The University of Phoenix in 1999.  She was also a Yip Harburg Fellow at New York University, and has served on The Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival Advisory Board since 2001.

Ms. Earl received a B.A. in Rhetoric and Communication Studies from The University of Virginia in May of 1993.  In December of 1994 she earned an M.A. in Humanities with emphases in Communication, English Literature, and Theatre from Old Dominion University, with graduate credits in English Literature from The Institute for Scholars in International Studies held at Oxford University in Oxford, England.  In May of 1997, she took an M.F.A. in Musical Theatre Writing as a Bookwriter/Librettist/Lyricist from The Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.

Ms. Earl is the Business Manager of “Hollywood’s Living Legend of Urban Comedy” and BET Comic View’s former Co-Host, Reynaldo Rey.  Mr. Rey’s production company, Sweet Redd Enterprises, and E. L. Earl Entertainment, have partnered in developing feature film and television projects, and “live” shows.  They are currently developing a feature film based on the friendship of Rey and Redd Foxx during the 12 years Foxx managed his career, “FOXX”. Ms. Earl was an Associate Producer for the Los Angeles area’s “Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam Tour” from 2000 to 2001.  She is currently partnered with one of HBO Def Poetry Jam’s Co- Executive Producers and Talent Executives, Bruce George, on several spoken word/poetry/music ventures (www.brucegeorgemedia.com).

As an actress, poet, and singer Eleanor has performed in London, Scotland, New York, and Los Angeles for several years.  She has shared the stage with Carol Maillord of the internationally acclaimed singing group “Sweet Honey in the Rock,” celebrated poet Amiri Baraka, and she was featured as a poet alongside Nikki Giovanni and Sonia Sanchez for the Saturn women 2 Women Tour at the 20th Century Fox Studios in Los Angeles, CA. 

As a writer, Ms. Earl has had staged readings of her plays and musicals at such venues as Her Majesty’s Theatre and Covent Garden’s Africa Centre in London.  Several of her original plays have been produced off-off Broadway in New York.  She was a member of the Blacksmyths, a writing workshop at the Mark Taper Forum in L.A., and performed her one-woman show, for which she wrote both text and music, at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland.
